Let’s help bring the joy of Christmas to thousands of vulnerable children in Carazo.

Managua, Nicaragua – This Christmas season, Good Neighbors invites the community and companies to join the “Give Smiles, donate a toy from the heart” campaign. This year, in its second edition, the campaign’s goal is to collect 10,000 toys, new or in good condition, to be distributed to children in vulnerable communities in Carazo.

Each donation will help bring smiles and hope to children during this special season. Toys will be received that are new, used in excellent condition and non-warlike, ensuring that all gifts contribute to an environment of peace and well-being for the little ones.

How to participate?

Good Neighbors invites individuals and companies to make their donations at any of the collection points:

Good Neighbors promotes personal hygiene and sanitation in Santa Teresa communities

Since August 2024, in parallel with the medical checkups, Good Neighbors International has developed a series of talks on personal hygiene and sanitation for 2,063 children and adolescents (NNA) in the communities served by CDP Santa Teresa. These activities, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 6, seek to strengthen families’ knowledge and healthy habits to ensure sustainable water and sanitation management.

The process was led by community volunteers and social work interns from the Centro Universitario Regional (CUR) Carazo, who gave practical talks on hand washing and tooth brushing. Each participant received an educational brochure and a bar of soap to promote hygiene in their homes.

With these actions, Good Neighbors reinforces the importance of healthy habits and community empowerment, ensuring the welfare of children and contributing to the sustainable development of communities.

“My Tree, My Friend”: Reforestation campaign promotes environmental education

Good Neighbors International launched the “Adopt a Tree My Tree, My Friend” reforestation campaign, involving 330 members of the educational community, including students, teachers and parents, in five schools in Jinotepe: 15 de septiembre, Alfonso Cortez, Edmundo Román, San José and Rubén Darío.

During the campaign, each child will adopt a tree and assign a name to it, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility. Burke Agro and UNAN contributed with the donation of 500 trees, including fruit and forest species. In addition, the school that manages to maintain the largest number of healthy trees will receive special recognition for its commitment to reforestation.

Good Neighbors and Colgate promote oral health in Jinotepe

Good Neighbors International, in collaboration with Colgate, carried out an oral hygiene promotion campaign that benefited 4,000 children from 26 schools in the municipalities of Jinotepe, Dolores and El Rosario. The initiative made students aware of the importance of maintaining good oral health habits from an early age.

During the delivery, playful games are played with the children where they learn about proper brushing, the importance of oral hygiene and also watch videos of doctor muelitas that guide them through creativity on the fundamental elements for care.

Thanks to Colgate’s strategic contribution, each child received a kit that included toothpaste, toothbrush and an educational brochure, encouraging healthy practices in their daily routine. The activity is part of Good Neighbors’ efforts to improve the quality of life in the communities served by the Good Neighbors municipal office.

Zumbathon “I Dance for Education”.

Charity Event to Enable Storytelling Corners in Rural Schools in Santa Teresa.

On Saturday, August 24, starting at 8:30 am, at the Olof Palme Convention Center, the charity event “Zumbatón Yo Bailo por la Educación” (I Dance for Education) will take place.

This event aims to enable five story corners in rural schools in Santa Teresa, thus promoting reading and education in 222 boys and 204 girls, through the books that participants donate.

To participate in this Zumbathon, people must purchase a children’s storybook at any of the Librerías Hispamer branches or through its online store. The first 150 people to arrive at the event will receive a welcome kit.

The event will be attended by leading Zumba instructors Carolina Palacios, Leyla Roque, Jossheline Morales and Fernando Castillo, who will make this an unforgettable day full of energy and fun.

Reading is a fundamental tool in the cognitive and emotional development of children. It fosters imagination, improves language, reading comprehension, and contributes to the development of critical skills such as concentration and analytical skills. In rural areas, where access to educational resources may be limited, story corners become vital spaces to encourage a love of reading from an early age.

Story corners not only provide access to books, but also create a welcoming and stimulating environment where children can explore new ideas, learn about different cultures and develop a sense of curiosity and creativity. By investing in these spaces, we are sowing the seeds for quality education and a brighter future for new generations.
