Good Neighbors promotes personal hygiene and sanitation in Santa Teresa communities

Since August 2024, in parallel with the medical checkups, Good Neighbors International has developed a series of talks on personal hygiene and sanitation for 2,063 children and adolescents (NNA) in the communities served by CDP Santa Teresa. These activities, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 6, seek to strengthen families’ knowledge and healthy habits to ensure sustainable water and sanitation management.

The process was led by community volunteers and social work interns from the Centro Universitario Regional (CUR) Carazo, who gave practical talks on hand washing and tooth brushing. Each participant received an educational brochure and a bar of soap to promote hygiene in their homes.

With these actions, Good Neighbors reinforces the importance of healthy habits and community empowerment, ensuring the welfare of children and contributing to the sustainable development of communities.

Good Neighbors and MINSA perform medical and nutritional check-ups in Santa Teresa

Since August, the municipal office of Good Neighbors in Santa Teresa, in coordination with the Ministry of Health (MINSA), has carried out medical and nutritional checkups for 2,063 children and adolescents (NNA) in 39 hard-to-reach communities. The activity, which is part of the Good Neighbors sponsorship program, seeks to improve the overall health of the beneficiaries by providing multivitamins, deworming and pediatric medicines to treat common illnesses such as flu, diarrhea and allergies.

The check-ups were carried out by MINSA doctors and nurses, who took anthropometric measurements (weight and height), provided nutritional assessments and prescribed medicines according to each patient’s needs. Families and the community actively participated in the process, demonstrating a key commitment to the success of the intervention. The delivery of medicines to those who require them reinforces the effort to guarantee quality care in these vulnerable areas.

Good Neighbors and Colgate promote oral health in Jinotepe

Good Neighbors International, in collaboration with Colgate, carried out an oral hygiene promotion campaign that benefited 4,000 children from 26 schools in the municipalities of Jinotepe, Dolores and El Rosario. The initiative made students aware of the importance of maintaining good oral health habits from an early age.

During the delivery, playful games are played with the children where they learn about proper brushing, the importance of oral hygiene and also watch videos of doctor muelitas that guide them through creativity on the fundamental elements for care.

Thanks to Colgate’s strategic contribution, each child received a kit that included toothpaste, toothbrush and an educational brochure, encouraging healthy practices in their daily routine. The activity is part of Good Neighbors’ efforts to improve the quality of life in the communities served by the Good Neighbors municipal office.

Lasting smiles in Carazo! Good Neighbors and the American University sign a collaboration agreement to promote dental health

Good Neighbors International in Nicaragua, committed to social welfare through various community development projects, has signed a 5-year collaboration agreement with the American University (UAM), to provide free medical care specialised in dentistry to the communities of the department of Carazo, a sector served by the organisation.

Caries treatment and dental extractions are some of the services that the university will provide to the more than 8,207 children between the ages of 0 and 12, who are part of the NGO’s sponsorship programme. This alliance is an example of Good Neighbors’ commitment to community and public health in Nicaragua, in collaboration with institutions that share the same values.

This agreement also guarantees the mobilisation of medical care to areas of difficult access in the sector served by the organisation. It should be noted that this medical care will be provided by the internship programme of students from the university’s dental school.

A new feature of this year’s intervention is that the students will visit the communities where Good Neighbors has a presence in order to attend to children and adolescents who find it difficult to leave their communities.
